The Special Cell of Delhi Police today seized 50 kg of Afghan heroin worth Rs 200 crore from a cold store located at Kundli in Sonepat, Haryana.

The contraband was concealed in cartons containing raisins and other dry fruit kept by a Delhi firm on a rental basis on July 12.

Sources said the cold store owner had been in the business for the past 20 years. The consignment had reportedly entered India through the Wagah border.

The bust comes after 150 kg of heroin worth Rs 600 crore was seized in Delhi on July 17.

DCP in Special Cell Manishi Chandra said the modus operandi involved soaking jute bags, meant for carrying spices from Afghanistan to India, in a heroin-laden solution, thereby concealing heroin powder in each bag’s fibres. After processing, each bag yielded 1 kg of heroin.
