Govt considering tech-based treatment of solid waste: CM

SHIMLA: Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said the state government would consider introducing effective technology for treatment of solid waste and stench management on a pilot basis in Shimla and Mandi towns.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said the state government would consider introducing effective technology for treatment of solid waste and stench management on a pilot basis in Shimla and Mandi towns.

He said this after a Mumbai-based company gave presentation on solid waste and liquid effluent treatment before here on Wednesday. By using effective and scientific technologies, volume of solid waste could be reduced drastically and odour issues from dumping sites also needed to be addressed properly, he added.

Thakur said that air and water emission standards could be improved by scientific treatment of industrial waste, meeting environmental industry standards and expectations of the community. He said that the state government may consider introducing this technology on pilot basis in Shimla and Mandi towns.

The company representative said, “New technology is organic and it include the bio-wizard, which is a combination of treated leachate, beneficial enzymes, essential oils and plant extracts and specially formulated nutrients.” The company claims, “The process is not only cost effective, but also have wide range of operative conditions, long residual effective period and is 100 per cent organic.” Shimla Mayor Kusum Sadret and Principal Secretary, Urban Development, Prabodh Saxena were present.
