Two Wushu players from the state have again brought laurels to the country by winning two bronze medals at the ongoing 9th Sanda World Cup at Hangzhou in China for the second consecutive year.

In the hard-fought semi-final bouts, Surya Bhanu Pratap lost to Russian world champion Ali Magomedov, while Rajinder was defeated by his Iranian counterpart Miles Azeri Magham and had to settle for bronze. The Indian team has bagged three bronze medals and one silver medal in the international sporting event which features more than 45 countries.

In the 2017 Wushu World Cup, which was held at Kazan in Russia, Surya Bhanu Pratap and Rajinder Singh had clinched a bronze medal each.

“It is indeed a great achievement for the J&K players. Despite not having the best facilities, they have managed to bring laurels to the nation and the state. Of the three bronze medals won by the national team, two bronze medals have been won by our players which is a proof of their consistent performance,” said Kuldeep Handoo, wushu national coach.
