March marks Int’l Mother Language Day

JALANDHAR: The Punjab Jagriti Manch and Sarbat Da Bhala Trust jointly held a march to mark the International Mother Language Day.

Jalandhar, February 21

The Punjab Jagriti Manch and Sarbat Da Bhala Trust jointly held a march to mark the International Mother Language Day. Punjabi singers, school children, and residents wearing sporting T-shirts, carrying slogans ‘Punjabi Bolo, Parho ate Likho’ (Speak, read and write Punjabi) took part in the march.

The crowd-pulling performance by singer Gurdas Mann – dressed in a traditional violet attire in his trademark stage style – remained the star attraction of the day, as the crowd at the Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall swayed and danced to his tunes. Other prominent Punjabi artists also performed on the occasion.

The march commenced from Lyallpur Khalsa School at Nakodar Chowk, and afer passing through various localities culminated at Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall. Singers Diljaan, Roshan Prince, and Dalvinder Dayalpuri also dished out vocal numbers for the cause of the mother tongue.

Punjab Jagriti Manch general secretary Satnam Manak, secretary Deepak Bali, Sarbat Da Bhala Trust managing trustee Dr SP Singh Oberoi, Gill Energy America’s owner Kashmir Gill, and president of the Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust Amarjot Singh, were also present on the occasion.

City Mayor Jagdish Raja, former vice-chancellor of the Punjabi University Patiala Dr Jaspal Singh, general secretary of the Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Committee Dr Raghbir Kaur, auhtor Waryam Singh Sandhu, writer Ashok Bhaura, among others, were also present on the occasion.
