JAGRAON: A youth in his twenties was killed and his younger brother severely injured in an accident near here past night.

A youth in his twenties was killed and his younger brother severely injured in an accident near here past night. The deceased has been identified as Lakhwinder Singh, alias Ravi (27), a resident of Abbupura village, near Sidhwan Bet, and the injured as Jaswinder Singh.

Their bike collided with a stray animal near Leelan Megh Singh village on the Jagraon-Jalandhar highway around 10 pm when both brothers were returning to their village from Jagraon. Lakhwinder failed to notice the stray animal as it abruptly came on the road.

Passersby rushed both brothers to the local Civil Hospital where the doctors referred them to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), Ludhiana.

At the CMCH, the doctors declared Lakhwinder dead on arrival. Jaswinder was admitted to the hospital. However, he is out of danger.

The police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC at the Jagraon Sadar police station on a statement of Jaswinder Singh.

Meanwhile, a man was injured when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a vehicle near Akhara village on the Jagraon-Raikot road this morning. The victim has been identified as Ajmer Singh, a resident of Akhara village, near here. 

The accident took place when Ajmer Singh was returning to his village from Jagraon. 

It is said that a vehicle hit his bike from behind near Sirhind Feeder Canal at Akhara village. 

He was admitted to the local Civil Hospital for treatment by villagers. 

His condition is stated to be stable now.
