India today signed key agreements with Bangladesh and South Korea to air national channels of the two countries at home and vice versa.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar shared this information saying the move marks a boost for India-Bangladesh and India-South Korea cooperation.

Javadekar said the government decided to show BTV World, a channel owned by Bangladesh TV, on Doordarshan free. At the same time, DD India would be made available in Bangladesh.

“This arrangement is as a result of an MoU signed between Prasar Bharati and Bangladesh TV (BTV) on May 7. BTV World would be of special interest to viewers of Eastern India,” Javadekar said tweeting the information.

India also approved the proposal of Prasar Bharati for making available the KBS World, an English 24x7 channel of the Government of Republic of South Korea on the DD free dish. Simultaneously, people of Korea would be able to view DD India in their country.

The Indo-Bangladesh pact on channels also fits the BJP government’s political outreach in Bengal, where it is challenging the dominance of Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee.
