Following a court order on “Istgasa” (complaint) moved by the victim against six persons, including her husband, the police at Langariavas village yesterday booked her in-laws for torture, rape and dowry. Abdul Vaheed, SHO, said they were being interrogated.

The victim’s medical examination at a government hospital revealed tattoo scars on her body.

Before moving the court, the victim and her parents had approached the caste panchayat for help, but to no avail.

The victim alleged that since her marriage, her husband and in-laws used to beat her up and demand dowry of Rs 51,000.

An FIR has been registered under sections of 498-A (Protection of Women Against Domestic Violence Act), 376 (punishment for rape) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the IPC and an investigation in the case has been initiated, he said.
