As Home Minister Amit Shah moved the proposal to revoke Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha, chaos prevailed in the Lok Sabha where Opposition leaders continued sloganeering even as Speaker Om Birla carried on with the listed business of the day in the House.

While Opposition parties raised slogans against the Narendra Modi-led government, the House proceeded to discuss the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2019 with an unfazed Odisha MP Aparajita Sarangi expressing her views.

Interestingly, AITC MP Satabdi Roy questioned why the government was not paying heed to opposition's views. However, she carried on to participate in the debate amid the chaos.

Sources said there was a specific reason why Shah chose to make the important move in the Rajya Sabha, where the opposition still has substantial figures. Shah “chose” the relatively difficult route  to “make a point”, according to sources.
