Sikh bodies want Delhi cops sacked

CHANDIGARH: Day after a Sikh driver and his son were assaulted by Delhi police personnel, several organisations and politicians today demanded immediate sacking of erring cops.

Chandigarh, June 18

Day after a Sikh driver and his son were assaulted by Delhi police personnel, several organisations and politicians today demanded immediate sacking of erring cops.

A number of Sikh activists assembled at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh on the Padampur Road in Sriganganagar and marched towards the district administrative complex. They shouted slogans against the Delhi Police and Home Minister Amit Shah. They said the incident reminded the Sikhs of atrocities suffered by them in the past. The protesters demanded immediate dismissal of erring policemen.

In Hanumangarh, various Sikh NGOs held a meeting and submitted memorandum to the President through the District Magistrate. Sarv Sikh Samaj Samiti district president Davinder Singh and secretary Parwinder Singh said criminal cases should be registered after sacking the guilty policemen.

Punjab Ekta Party chief Sukhpal Singh Khaira said the police force was highly politicised and it also lacked training in dealing with people. “The assault on Sikh driver is a testimony that the police have not learned to treat human beings and they behave like goons. There was a major flaw in police training in India.” He urged Shah to sack the guilty cops. —TNS
