The bright side of darkness

Tell us about the role.

I am playing the character of Purnima Arora, an underdog because of her dark skin. The love story revolves around how she comes through the trials and tribulations she faces in her life because of her stepmother and sister.

Did you face any challenge while playing this role?

The challenge I faced while essaying the role was to balance the character of a dark girl, who is looked down upon by the society, and how she stuns everyone around her with a positive attitude.

Since it’s your first TV show, what have been the lessons so far?

This character’s emotional journey throughout the show is something that attracted me. It gives me an opportunity to send out the message that beauty lies within you.

Your show is being compared to other shows on the same topic of dusky and fair girl. Your comment?

Yes, there are some successful shows with same concept such as Karthika Deepam, Muddulakshmi, Barathi Kannamma and Rang Maza Vegla. But all these shows are in regional languages. Our show is made for the Hindi speaking audience. Also, the story of Kartik Purnima is a unique love story and showcases a lot of relationship dynamics in its own unique manner.

How was your experience shooting in Amritsar?

Shooting in Amritsar was fun. The weather there was extremely cold. However, the people were very warm. My experience in shooting in the Golden Temple was mesmerising and one of the most memorable moments in my life. I also enjoyed the food and took out time to indulge in some shopping.

How is your rapport with your co-actors?

The entire cast and crew of the show are very supportive and fun to work with. We are like one big family on the sets.

How has been the feedback so far?

So far so good! For me the only thing that matters is the opportunity to connect with the audience and that is the best form of gratification for any actor.
