The Agricultural Meteorological Department of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) has predicted dry weather over the next couple of days and ruled out a major change in the weather conditions. Cold conditions will continue due to the northern and northwestern cold winds. The region will witness foggy mornings, the advisory from the HAU stated.
Meanwhile, sunshine gave some respite to residents from the extreme cold. Farmers, however, said crops needed light rainfall at this time of the year. “Though the experts are advising farmers to resort to mild irrigation in the absence of rain, it will increase the input costs,” said Subhash, a farmer in Raipur village of the district.
As per IMD data, there has been no rainfall since January 1.
“Farmers are advised to give light and frequent irrigation to protect crops from cold conditions,” said the State Agro Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh.
