Hisar, July 21

Slain DSP Surender Singh was laid to rest with full state honours at his native Sarangpur village in Hisar today.

Deputy Speaker Ranbir Singh Gangwa, Adampur MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi, Fatehabad MLA Dura Ram, Director General of Police PK Agrawal and several other senior functionaries of the government, besides locals were present to pay respects to the slain DSP.

The body of the DSP was kept at the Hisar Civil Hospital mortuary and was brought to his native village today. Heavy rain delayed the cremation proceedings by a couple of hours.

The attendees describe the atmosphere as extremely emotional for the family and other villagers when the DSP’s body was brought to his ancestral house covered with the National Flag.

His son Sidharth, who flew from Canada on Wednesday evening, accompanied the body from Hisar Civil Hospital in a police vehicle.

Hundreds of school students and villagers offered floral tributes. Interacting with mediapersons, Deputy Speaker Ranbir Singh Gangwa said DSP Surender Singh was known as an honest and upright officer.

“The Haryana Government has expressed solidarity with the grieving family and assured strict punishment to those involved in the DSP’s killing,” he said.

DGP PK Agrawal said the police were proud of Singh, who laid down his life while performing his duty. He said: “It is a personal loss. The police have arrested two accused involved in the murder. Further probe in underway.”

DSP Surender Singh had gone to Nuh to investigate an incident of illegal mining.

During the investigation, he was crushed to death by a dumper driver. Home Minister Anil Vij said he had ordered judicial inquiry into the killing of the DSP.
