Shimla, January 21
The state government has declared January 22 a holiday on account of the consecration ceremony of the idol of Lord Rama at Ram Temple, Ayodhya. As per the notification issued today, January 22 has been declared a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881. All departments, boards, corporations, schools, colleges and universities, etc., will remain closed tomorrow.
Meanwhile, a 24-hour ‘Akhand Path’ at Ram Mandir, Shimla, began today after Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid obeisance at the temple and lighted the diyas. The ‘Akhand Path’, involving five Pandits, is scheduled to conclude on Monday at 10 am.
Praying for the prosperity of the state, the Chief Minister said: “Lord Rama is the ideal of the entire country and our culture, and does not belong to any particular party. Tomorrow, I will light a lamp in my house and will encourage others to do the same,” said Sukhu, urging everyone to imbibe the qualities of Rama and the values and lessons of Ramayana in their lives.
He further said a statue of Lord Rama would be erected along with the statue of Lord Hanuman in Jakhu as proposed by the Sood Sabha.
Meanwhile, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh has gone to Ayodhya to attend the consecration of the idol of Lord Rama tomorrow. He is the only minister from the state to attend the ceremony.
