Doda, September 25
The Batote-Kishtwar national highway was partially reopened for vehicular traffic after remaining closed for over three hours on Tuesday morning following to a massive landslide.
The landslide took place in the Junglewad area of Doda around 6:45 am and blocked the traffic, forcing hundreds of vehicles to remain stranded for hours.
A major road clearance operation was launched immediately after the landslide, but despite using heavy machinery, the authorities could restore only a portion of the highway till the evening.
Bhovinder Singh, a traffic official, said, “The highway was blocked early this morning due to a massive landslide. The authorities concerned swung into action and launched a road clearance operation with two JCBs and heavy machinery.”
