As many as 350 farmers who had followed initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), to curb stubble burning were felicitated today.

The function was organised by the Gadri Baba Dulla Singh Giani Nihal Singh Foundation at Jalaldiwal village.

The organisers led by Dr Harminder Singh Sidhu and Tota Singh Dina also honoured national hockey girl players from the village and entrepreneur Manpreet Kaur Patti on the occasion.

At least 100 participants donated blood at a blood donation camp which was held in collaboration with the Blood Bank of the Christian Medical College and Hospital and Krishana Charitable Hospital.

Former ADC JP Singh, Joint Director Agriculture Department Manmohan Kalia and Harjit Grewal said a lot needs to be done to protect degradation of environment. Speakers acknowledged that warm response given by hundreds of farmers has laid a foundation for reforms in certain agricultural practices that have since been causing harm to farmers as well as residents.

Sarpanch Jagjit Singh Jagga, Harminder Singh Chhina, Surinder Singh Jalaldiwal, tehsil secretary Harinderpreet Singh Honey, Pritpal Singh and Karnail Singh, among others, were also present on the occasion.
