Ludhiana, July 28
The police nabbed four drug smugglers in separate cases and seized 325 kg of poppy husk from them. Two trucks, which were used for smuggling purpose, were also impounded by the police.
Police Commissioner Dr Kaustubh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Varinder Singh Brar also addressed a press conference on the matter.
In the first case, the Crime Branch-2 arrested two smugglers and seized 200 kg of poppy husk from them. The accused have been identified as Kamalpreet Singh (33) of Majara village and Gagandeep Singh Lalli of Shankar village near Dehlon. The police also seized a truck (PB10FF9997) owned by Kamalpreet, a truck driver.
DCP (Crime) Varinder Brar said CIA incharge Inspector Beant Juneja had set up a naka near Dehlon. A truck was signalled to stopped on suspicion. During the checking, 45 kg of poppy husk was seized and truck driver was arrested.
Later on the disclosures of Kamalpreet, 75 kg more poppy husk was seized from him, DCP (Crime) Brar said during questioning Kamalpreet admitted that he had recently handed over a consignment of 100-kg poppy husk to Gagandeep. The police then conducted raid and nabbed Gagandeep and seized 80-kg poppy husk from him.
In another case, the Crime Branch-1 nabbed a truck driver, Mandeep Singh of Sahnewal, and Surinder Singh Shinda and seized 125 kg of poppy husk from them.
DCP Brar said acting on a trip-off, the CIA team set up a naka at a strategic point on the Gill road. The truck (PB1HC5173) was intercepting and during its checking 125 of kg poppy husk was seized. Two persons travelling in the truck were also arrested.
