The Ludhiana police have made adequate security arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations in the industrial hub. Around 4,000 personnel of the Commissionerate Police, including 700 additional called from the police headquarters, would be standing guard to ensure no anti-social elements create any law and order problem.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Rupinder Singh said the Ludhiana police would install permanant checkpoints at various strategic locations in the city to conduct checking of suspicious vehicles and persons. “Some of the nakas will

be hi-tech where police personnel with advanced weapons would be deployed. Officials in civvies would also conduct patrolling in city areas to keep a tab on anti- social elements,” the DCP said.

Meanwhile, the Ludhiana police also conducted an anti-sabotage checking with specially trained police officials at all sensitive points in and around the venue at Punjab Agricultural University where the Republic Day function will be held and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would attend the function as the chief guest.

Meanwhile, sources said besides, all entry and exit points of the city would be sealed. If required, the identity of commuters entering Ludhiana would also be checked to ensure that no criminal or anti-social element enters the city.
