Ludhiana, December 6
Contractual employees associated with the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC Contract Workers Union, Punjab, have announced to go on indefinite strike from Tuesday onwards. The employees are demanding regularisation of their jobs.
The union members blamed the state government for not regularising their jobs despite giving assurances in the past. The government-run bus service being operated by the contractual staff would be affected due to their protest.
Meanwhile, members of the Punjab Government Transport Workers Union organised a meeting. They demanded from the government that the contractual workers of PUNBUS must be regularised in Punjab Roadways by making required amendment in the Act.
They demanded that the PUNBUS buses should be merged in the Punjab Roadways. They criticised the registration of FIRs against the contractual employees of PUNBUS after recent protests marked by the employees by the closing of the bus stand.
The members of the union demanded from the state government to quash the FIRs against the staff.
