Ex-manager among five booked for ~3.20-crore fraud


Ludhiana: A former manager of a bank in connivance with other notorious elements committed a fraud of Rs 3.20 crore with the bank. The accused had obtained a loan in the name of 65 beneficiaries. The police have registered a case against the former bank employee and others. The accused have been identified as Rajesh Kumar, former manager, SBI Link road branch, Arun Kumar, Ankush of Satjot Nagar, Amarjit Singh Khalsa of Friends Colony and Harish Kumar of Janta Nagar. The complainant, manager of the SBI Link road branch, Abhishek Jain, told the police that former manager Rajesh in connivance with the other accused had convinced some illiterate persons that they would get a loan up to Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 and they would not require to return the same. In fact, the accused had obtained loans up to Rs 5 lakh on the name of each beneficiary under the express credit scheme. After disbursing up to Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 to real beneficiaries, the accused had transferred the remaining amount to their own accounts and withdrew the same via cheque issued on the name of beneficiaries. Woman raped by landlord

Ludhiana: A landlord who went to take house rent from his tenant at Giaspura here raped the latter yesterday. The Daba police have registered a case against accused Kuldeep Singh, a resident of SAS Nagar. Investigating officer Naveen Kumar said the accused owns a meat shop and on the first floor of his shop, he had given a room on rent. Yesterday, he was drunk. He barged into the room of the victim and finding her alone, raped her. The woman told the police that the accused had also told her not to reveal about the incident to anyone else she would have to bear the consequences. The accused is yet to be arrested. TNS
