Ludhiana, February 9
The protest by farmers outside the DC office entered its fourth day. Showing solidarity with constituent outfits of Samyukt Kisan Morcha for getting their genuine demands accepted from Centre and the state government, Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) (Ekta Ugrahan) are sitting on dharna.
Protesting farmers today raised slogans against the state government for not fulfilling the promises made at the time of elections.
“The AAP government promised a farmers policy which will take care of all the interests of the farmers and farm workers, but despite repeated reminders, the policy has not been framed yet and is being delayed continuously,” said general secretary of BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) Saudagar Singh.
Another union member, Rajinder Singh Siar, said that farmers are ending their lives but government seems least bothered. “We have been requesting the successive governments to waive off all the loan on the farmers. The tragedy of the situation is that farmers are the food providers of the country but they are forced to end their lives. Families of such farmers should be given at least Rs 10 lakh compensation and government job to one member in the family,” he said.
An updated plan of action will be announced on February 10 and they will continue to raise their voice and protest till all their demands are met, said a leader of the farmers’ union.
