Minister for Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs Bharat Bhushan Ashu today handed over cheques amounting to Rs 20 lakh for development works in different blocks of Maharishi Valmiki Nagar, a colony developed and maintained by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT).
Addressing a gathering of residents of the colony and other dignitaries, the minister also committed grants of another Rs 30 lakh for development projects in the colony.
He said though the LIT was already carrying out development works in several blocks of the colony with the availability of more funds, these works could be expedited and other required projects could also be undertaken.
The minister assured that with all-round development projects being executed in the city, especially those under the Smart City Mission, Ludhiana would soon become a better place to live.
He said efforts were on to address other day-to-day problems, including pollution, traffic congestion, sanitation and poor condition of roads, being faced by residents. Several big projects were in the pipeline and positive results would be visible in coming days.
While a cheque for Rs 4 lakh was handed over to the F-Block Welfare Association of the colony, PPCC secretary and resident of F Block Sunil Datt was felicitated for his selfless services to society in general and the colony in particular.
City Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, councillor Mamta Ashu, Sandeep Salwan, Dr Satish Thaman, Rajiv Kapila and Raman Gogna were among those others present.
