Doraha, December 18

On the concluding day of the 62nd Panjab University Inter-Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival Dr Amar Singh, MP, Fatehgarh Sahib, was the chief guest.

AS College, Khanna, principal RS Jhanji welcomed guests and shared his views with performers and audience. Neena Pajni, principal, GPC, Alour, and Pargat Singh Garcha, principal, Education College, Gurusar Sudhar, were among others present.

The alumni association of the college celebrated its silver jubilee. A collection of poetry of alumni of AS College, Khanna, titled ‘Pairhaan’ was published and released under the guidance of Dean, Alumni association, Harpal Singh Bhatti, and Paramjit Singh Pammi, president of the association.

In his address, Dr Amar Singh shared the memories of his academic life and encouraged students to do better in their lives. He also announced a grant of Rs 11 lakh to the college. The Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, won the overall trophy whereas Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana and AS College, Khanna, were the first and second runners up, respectively.

Director, Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Nirmal Jaura: “The festival has invited the attention of the entire state. The vigour with which the students are participating shows that they were eagerly awaiting for such an event,” Dr Jaura said.

The concluding day of the youth festival was dedicated to Punjabi folk dance. Folk dances in the male and female category were the attractions of the day.

Folk Orchestra: BKS College, Muhar, 1st; Ramgarhia Girls’ College, Ludhiana, and Arya College, Ludhiana, 2nd; and Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Abohar, and SGGS College, Sector 26, Chandigarh, 3rd.

Skit: DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, 1st; PGGCG, Sector 11, Chandigarh, 2nd; Government College, Hoshiarpur, and KCW, Ludhiana, 3rd.

Mime: PGGC, Sector 11, Chandigarh, 1st; AS College, Khanna, and PGGCG, Sector 42, Chandigarh, 2nd; Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh, and Dashmesh College of Education, Badal, 3rd.

Mimicry: DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, got 1st; KCW, Ludhiana, 2nd; Arya College, Ludhiana, and SPN College, Mukerian, 3rd.

Bhand: SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, 1st; GGDSD College, Sector 32, Chandigarh, 2nd; Government College, Hoshiarpur, and PUCC Nihal Singh Wala 3rd. — OC
