Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday stressed upon “developing new technologies indigenously” and termed it as the need of the hour.
The minister also commended the DRDO for its young scientists’ lab and advance technology centres for working in futuristic technologies such as nano technology, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, unmanned and robotic technologies.
Terming it as the new dimension of “New India”, Singh called for increased research and development efforts in such futuristic technologies. He laid stress on the need to develop dual use technologies which could be beneficial for both armed forces and civilians.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernise the armed forces and equip them with latest machinery to deal with any challenge.
He was speaking after felicitating the winners of “Dare to Dream 2.0” contest of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He gave away awards to 40 winners — 22 in individual category and 18 in the startup category.
