A 25-year-old woman from Ablu village in Bathinda, who was allegedly duped by an agent of a chit fund company, sat on a dharna outside his house today. Later, the police were forced to take action. They arrested the agent and initiated a probe into the matter.

Satwinder Kaur, along with her mother and grandmother, reached the house of the agent and sat on a dharna. Talking to The Tribune, Satwinder said, “Manpreet Singh, an agent of a chit fund company, had promised us good returns if we invested in a six-year scheme. We gave him Rs 86,000. However, several months have passed, but he has not paid us the money.”

Kor Singh, incharge of the Killi Nihal Singhwala police post, said, “We have arrested Manpreet Singh from Ablu village. He used to work for a firm named Sarv Agro India Ltd. We are investigating how many persons have invested in the scheme.”
