Sangrur, February 10
Joginder Singh Ugrahan, head, BKU (Ugrahan), today said they would hold a ‘pucca morcha’ in Chandigarh from February 24 as the state government had failed to frame pro-farmer agriculture policy and clear their debt.
He said despite holding pucca morcha from February 6 to February 10 in 19 districts, the state government seemed “non-serious” to address the issues affecting farmers.
Addressing farmers and women activists in Sangrur, Ugrahan said the minimum support price (MSP) of crops had not been been fixed and farmers were earning way less as the input costs had increased several times in the past three decades.
He added that the government should give Rs 10,000 monthly pension to farmers above the age of 60 years and Rs 60,000 per acre compensation for crop damage.
Ugrahan said if such points were included in the new agriculture policy, no farmer would die by suicide and financial health of farmers would improve to a great extent.
