Chandigarh, January 28
Though the severe cold wave that swept northern India last week has largely abated, minimum temperatures continued to hover a notch below normal at some places in Punjab, with fog being experienced at many places.
A wet spell over the western Himalayan region, however, is very likely till February 3, with the possibility of heavy rain on January 30 and 31 due to two successive western disturbances, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
A rise in minimum temperature by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the North-west is also expected during the next 4-5 days, the Met office added.
Severe cold day conditions, with day temperature dipping up to 10 degrees below normal and the atmosphere remaining foggy and hazy, had prevailed in the state. The past two days, though, had been sunny leading to an increase in day temp, bringing some respite to the people.
During the past 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature recorded in Punjab was 22.8 degrees Celsius at Samrala, while the minimum was 5.5 degrees Celsius at Moga, according to the IMD.
