Braving cold weather and dense fog, the SAD’s women’s wing today held the first-ever all-woman political conference of Malwa region dedicated to Mata Bhag Kaur (Mai Bhago) during the Maghi Mela here today.

Why not a woman CM?

If women can become MLA, MP and President, then why can’t they become the CM? They are even able to lead the nation. I appeal to our party president to give 33 per cent seats to women in the coming MP elections. — Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Bathinda MP

Buoyed by the success of the rally, SAD chief Sukhbir Badal announced to give 50 per cent seats to women in the coming panchayat and civic body elections and 33 per cent seats in the Assembly and the Lok Sabha poll.

Addressing former CM Parkash Singh Badal as “Bapu Badal”, Sukhbir said all people-friendly schemes launched during the SAD government would be restarted once the party returns to power. Terming ‘badlaav’ (change) in the state as ‘tabaahi’ (disaster), he appealed to the public, “Punjab nu bacha lo (save Punjab).”

Asserting that Punjabis had been betrayed by both the Congress and AAP, Sukhbir said, “The Congress promised to waive farm loans, but did nothing. Similarly, AAP formed the state government on the basis of lies. AAP leaders and MLAs are involved in corrupt practices and get monthly from drug dealers. Whenever any AAP leader visits your village, you should demand Rs 24,000 as the party leadership has failed to fulfil its promise of giving Rs 1,000 each per month.”

Earlier, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal spoke about the sacrifices made by women from the period of Guru Sahibs to present times. She also lambasted AAP for its ‘zero electricity bill’ slogan by saying that all other social welfare benefits had been stopped.

Istri Akali Dal chief Hargobind Kaur said women were bearing the brunt of bringing the AAP to power. “The state government has failed on all fronts, be it drugs, sand prices or the problems faced by poor people,” she said.

Interestingly, no SAD leader uttered a word against the BJP. Interacting with media, Harsimrat said SAD had an alliance with the BSP.
