An intensive search operation was conducted in the district jail in Sriganganagar today after an order to send Sachin Thapan in judicial custody after a 10-day police remand. Thapan is known as a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Jail Superintendent Abhishek Sharma said that the barracks, security ward, women’s ward, prisoner hospital and the mess were searched by officials. In the operation which lasted for about 2 hours, no suspicious object was found, he said.
The action was taken on the directions of DM Anshdeep and SP Vikas Kumar. ASP Satnam Singh and trainee IPS Vinay Kumar monitored the operation.
Thapan was brought from Delhi’s Tihar jail to Sriganganagar on production warrant on January 26. Thapan’s name had also surfaced in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case. He had fled abroad via Nepal and was caught in Azerbaijan.
