Amid lack of high-paying jobs, city residents, including highly-educated youths, are taking to driving cabs for firms providing web-based cab services in the city. Since their cabs get hired frequently, they are making good money, around Rs 35,000 per month on an average.

Joining web-based cab services needs a little investment so a large number of youths are getting attracted towards it.

A resident of Verka bypass, who didn’t wish to be named, said he had been searching for a job in the city since completing his MBA a few years ago. Majority of job offers were other cities or states, and the job offers from the city were not lucrative. “My father had just retired from the Army so we had some money to invest. Instead of investing in any of the conventional business, I decided to buy a car to work as a cab driver,” he said.

According to him, he earns Rs 35,000 per month or above. Besides, the nature of the job offered him liberty to choose working hours of his liking. “Switching off the mobile phone means I am not interesting in taking any assignment,” he said.
