Tarn Taran , March 6

A person has been booked for allegedly using a fake stamp of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, which is used for arms licences.

The accused has been identified as Mandeep Singh, a resident of Basarke village. A case under Section 420 of the IPC has been registered against the accused.

The matter came to the notice of the authorities when Kashmir Singh of Shahbazpur village filed a complaint with the police in which he said the accused took Rs 10,000 from him to make an official entry of the purchase of weapons in his arms licence.

He said the accused used a fake stamp on the licence and in the official record of the arms branch of the DC’s office, no such entry was found. Kashmir Singh said the accused took more Rs 70,000 for issuing a arms licence in the name of his son Baljinder Singh.

SP (Investigation) Tilak Raj probed the complaint and registered a case on the basis of the inquiry report. ASI Gurbkhshish Singh, Investigating Officer, said it was yet to be verified if any employee of the DC’s office was involved in this case. — TNS
