Amritsar, June 12

To encourage residents to get their pets registered with the Municipal Corporation (MC), the health wing has reduced the registration fee from Rs 500 to Rs 200. Keeping in view the lukewarm response to the registration drive launched for pet dogs, the MC has decided to give respite to residents.

Municipal Health Officer Dr Raju Chowan said, “Residents are reluctant to pay Rs 500 for a dog. So we have decreased the fee. Now, it will be compulsory for every pet owner to get his or her dog registered.”

The MC has planned to spend the money collected from the registration of pets on sterilisation of stray dogs. “We will conduct sterilisation of dogs,” said Dr Raju Chowan.

The drive for the registration of pet dogs was initiated in the city on July 8, 2017 at the Civil Veterinary Hospital at Hathi Gate. Few residents had come forward to get their dogs registered due to high fee.
