Plantation drive begins

TARN TARAN: A district-level tree plantation drive dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev began from Sangha village on Monday.



Tarn Taran, February 18

A district-level tree plantation drive dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev began from Sangha village on Monday. The Bhog of Sri Akhand Path of Shri Guru Granth Sahib was performed on the occasion at the office of the Forest Range Officer.

Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, while addressing the gathering, said that 550 saplings would be planted in every village of the district. The DC sought the cooperation of all sections of the society for looking after the planted saplings.

As many as 50 persons donated blood at a camp organised in association with the Health Department. The donors were honoured by the DC with certificates and medals. He said 2.5 lakh saplings would be planted during the drive. The administration has established seven nurseries in Tarn Taran, Chohla Sahib, Patti, Dilawalpur, Algo Kothi, Nagoke and at Sarai Amanat Khan for distribution of plants on free. —OC
