Bariatric surgery is effective for obesity with Type 2 diabetes : Doc

BATHINDA: On the successful completion of two years of Bariatric Surgery department, Max Hospital organised an obesity support group programme here today.

On the successful completion of two years of Bariatric Surgery department, Max Hospital organised an obesity support group programme here today.

The hospital also organised a free consultation camp for the obese patients and examined the blood pressure, sugar and BMI of the patients free of cost.

Dr Manish Baijal, senior consultant, metabolic and bariatric surgery, said, “Obesity itself is a problem and related with others diseases such as high blood pressure, sugar and cardiac problems. There are different ways to reduce weight like diet control, exercises and bariatric surgery. If the BMI of the patient is more than 37.5 or it is 32.5 with the high blood pressure, sugar, cardiac problems and joint pains, then only the patient needs a surgery.”

Balveer Sharma shared her experience and said, “I was doing everything to reduce my weight such as diet control, walking and gym but I could not reduced my weight. I was very upset as I was also type 2diabetic patient and was on high doses of insulin. Because of the proper guidance of the team of bariatric surgery department my blood pressure and sugar levels are now under control.”

Dr Vikas Jindal, senior consultant metabolic and bariatric surgery, said our purpose was to organise a support group programme to make obese patients aware and encourage about the problem.

Dr Sushil Kotru, head Max Endocrine Diabetes Obesity care centre, said, “Diabetes is not a single disease, it is a combination of others also. Baiartric surgery is very effective for patients who are affected form obesity with type 2 diabetes. After this patients can maintain their blood sugar levels well.”
