Bathinda, August 25

The authorities are seemingly not bothered about the bad condition of roads across the city. Some stretches dug-up for various works are yet to be restored, causing a major inconvenience to motorists and other residents.

Roads around the grain market are the prime example as they are in an excavated condition for the past four-five months. The laying of concrete pipelines was in progress. Even JCB machines, tractor-trailers were found on the spot for the construction work which seemed to be underway for months.

Motorists said they had been experiencing bumpy rides and some of them had even slipped and fell from their vehicles. They have to take long routes to reach their destinations by avoiding these roads.

A passer-by said: “It’s been quite long that these roads are in such a perennial condition. I don’t know why these are not being restored. At present, these roads are muddy which troubles commuters.”

The condition of poor roads is not just confined to this particular area. Such dug-up roads have become a common feature of the city. Following incessant rains, their condition has gone from bad to worse with officials taking no interest to address the issue despite several accidents being reported each day.

Meanwhile, Mayor Balwant Rai Nath could not be contacted for his comments over the issue.

Earlier, he had claimed that the damaged roads across the city would be restored soon.
