In a hit-and-run case, a policeman was injured after being knocked down by a car near the traffic light point at Tank Chowk here yesterday. The unidentified car driver sped away from the spot.

The injured cop has been identified as Rajinder Kumar, who was taken to the Sector 6 Civil Hospital. The police said a barricade had been set up before the traffic lights near Tank Chowk.

They signalled the driver of a rashly driven car (PB 1B 0507) to stop. The driver slowed down, but sped away without stopping at the barricade.

However, as there was a red light and vehicles were already waiting for the green signal, the driver had to stop. The police said some cops rushed towards the car and asked the driver to show the documents of the car. Rajinder Kumar was standing in front of the vehicle.

As the traffic light turned green, the driver of the car asked the cop to move away, but without waiting, hit him and sped away. The police took the injured cop to the hospital, where doctors discharged him after applying plaster on the injured leg.

The police have registered a case under Sections 186, 332, 352 and 307 of the IPC.
