A 32-year-old working woman was rescued after an Alto car she was driving fell into a pond near Peer Muchalla here on Monday morning.

The incident occurred when the victim, Ritu, a resident of Samridhi Homes, Dhakoli, was going to her workplace in the Industrial Area, Panchkula. When she reached near the road separating Sector 20 and 21, a stray cattle suddenly came on the road. To prevent a collision, Ritu applied brakes and turned the steering wheel towards the right side.

While doing so, her Alto car was hit by another vehicle, which was also moving in the same direction. As a result, Ritu lost control over the car, which slid into the pond along the roadside.

According to sources, the victim remained stuck in the submerged car for about 10 to 15 minutes and was rescued by some local residents who rushed to the spot after seeing the top of the car sticking out of the water.

The victim’s relatives reached the spot after learning about the incident. The car was dragged out of the pond with the help of a crane.
