Nat’l Lok Adalat: 2,126 cases disposed of in city

CHANDIGARH: As many as 2,126 cases were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat held here on Saturday. Thirteen Benches headed by the serving judicial officers pursued the cases for amicable settlement.

As many as 2,126 cases were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat held here on Saturday. Thirteen Benches headed by the serving judicial officers pursued the cases for amicable settlement.

These include 33 criminal compoundable cases involving an amount of Rs 43,000, 804 cheque bounce cases for the amount of Rs 10.21 crore, three bank recovery cases involving an amount of Rs 2.50 lakh, three motor accident claim cases involving an amount of Rs 36.70 lakh, 33 cases of labour disputes involving a settlement amount of Rs 9.36 lakh, 17 matrimonial/family disputes, 50 civil suits and rent cases involving an amount of Rs11.55 lakh and 848 traffic challans by imposing a fine of Rs 3.76 lakh among others.

Besides, 14 pre-litigative cases involving an amount of Rs 5.91 lakh were also settled in the Lok Adalat.

Panchkula Lok Adalat settles 375 cases

Panchkula: As many as 375 cases amounting to Rs 28.31 lakh were disposed of during the third National Lok Adalat held at the district court here on Saturday. Criminal compoundable matters, including cases registered under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, matrimonial disputes, traffic challans, rent and injunction suits, were taken up during the Lok Adalat.

In all, 2,329 cases were taken up at the Lok Adalat. The Benches at Lok Adalat were presided over by judges from the Panchkula court. 

Rs 59.48 crore awarded in SAS Nagar

Mohali: As many as 741 cases were settled while passing total awards of Rs 59.48 crore in the National Lok Adalat here on Saturday.

The adalat dealt with cases related to criminal compoundable offences, NI Act under Section-138, bank recovery , MACT, matrimonial disputes, labour dispute, land acquisition, electricity and water bills (excluding non-compoundable theft cases), service matters relating to pay, allowance and retiral benefits, besides revenue and civil cases (rent, easmentary rights, injunction and specific performance suits).

Justice Daya Chaurdhary, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Administrative Judge, Sessions Division, SAS Nagar, visited Mohali courts to take stock of the proceedings at the Lok Adalat.

Six Benches constituted at the Mohali headquarter were presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judges Sanjay Agnihotri, Monika Goyal and Girish, Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohit Bansal, Civil Judges (Junior Division), SAS Nagar, Amit Bakshi and Harjinder Kaur. Other than these, two Benches each were constituted at Kharar and Dera Bassi subdivisions. One Bench of Industrial Tribunal, SAS Nagar, was presided over by Gurmeet Kaur, ADJ. 

2,124 cases taken up in Fatehgarh Sahib

Fatehgarh Sahib: Under the directive of the National Legal Services Authority, National Lok Adalat was organised in Fatehgarh Sahib. The adalat was organised under the supervision of RS Rai, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Fatehgarh Sahib. 

Two Benches were also constituted at Amloh subdivision. As many as 2,124 cases came up for hearing in the Lok Adalat, said Rai. 

 In all 1,516 cases were amicably settled on the spot for which compensation of Rs 88,14,80,294 (Rs 88.15 crore approximately) was awarded to the beneficiaries.
