Chandigarh, February 23

A two-day international workshop on "Shock waves in science, engineering and medicine" was inaugurated today at the PGGCG, Sector 11, Chandigarh.

The workshop is being held in collaboration with Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru; Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi; National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad; Armament Research Board DRDO, New Delhi; and High Energy Materials Society of India, Chandigarh.

Researchers and scientists shared their views about the interdisciplinary sciences and their role for the betterment of society. In the inaugural session, Prof Gopalan Jagadeesh from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IISc Bengaluru, gave an introduction of shock waves and its conceptual framework. Prof E Arunan from the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, IISc, Bengaluru, threw light on the dimension of 'Chemical Kinetics'.

Prof Venkata R Kakulavarapu from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, New Jersey, Institute of Technology, US, gave a presentation on 'Blast-induced traumatic brain injury displays a unique pattern of spatial neuropathology'.

Prof V Jayaram from the Department of Solid State and Structural Chemistry, IISc Bengaluru, talked about 'Shock Wave: Application in Material Science'.

 Principal Anita Kaushal said this  workshop would encourage students to opt for research opportunities. — TNS
