Two passengers were apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Indira Gandhi International Airport for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 64 lakh and one of them had carried it in an ingenious way by concealing gold bars inside a torch.

In the first instance, at 5 pm on Tuesday, the CISF intercepted a passenger named Nasim Ahmed, who had arrived at the airport from Mumbai by an Air India flight.

"When we checked his baggage, six gold bars weighing about 700 grams were concealed in a torch wrapped with the battery," said Hemendra Singh, Deputy Commandant, Public Relations Officer, CISF.

The passenger disclosed to the CISF that he came from Riyadh to Mumbai by an Air India flight and then arrived at Delhi. The Customs was informed and they arrested Ahmed and seized the gold.

"On checking his baggage, 1.525 kilogram gold was found," he  said.
