Wireless sensors can detect toxic gases: Expert

Wireless sensors can detect toxic gases and waste in various industries and water bodies.

This was stated by Prof Dharma P Aggarwal from University Of Cincinnati, Ohio (USA), at a two-day international symposium on communication and distributive systems ‘Comsys-2014’, which concluded at Jawaharlal Nehru Government Engineering College at Sundernagar here today.

The symposium was organised for creating awareness about the emerging trends and latest advancements in the field of communication technology, especially wireless sensor network, among faculty members, research scholars and budding professionals. The use and research on wireless sensors and networks in technical educational institutes could foster the product design, product development and their commercialisation in the country.

Chief guest Professor Aggarwal, an expert on wireless and mobile systems, emphasised on the recent advances and applications of wireless sensors finding use in various fields, including medical, healthcare and emergency response teams like fire-fighters.

The professor Prof Aggarwal brings with him huge expertise in his field with over 550 publications and five patents and is on the Editorial Board of leading international journals like IEEE. He happens to be the co-author of various text books on wireless and mobile systems.

Prof Lalit Kumar Awasthi, director of the institute, said wireless and mobile systems had transformed the lives of people and research in this field was bound to bring more benefits to society at large.

RK Sharma, Principal, Government Polytechnic, Sundernagar, and DR Sharma, Principal, Government Polytechnic, Kullu, were the guest of honour on the occasion.
