Ludhiana, December 6

Demonetisation has dried up the coffers of the rich of the city.

Today, a group of 20 industrialists and businessmen, who used to have a lavish dinner at the city’s best restaurants, were spotted having dinner at a local dhaba.

The industrialists, including Sandeep Jain, president of the Ludhiana Furnace Association, Anand Sikri, president of the Ludhiana Jewellers Association, Rajinder Gupta, Ripan Jain of Sharman Shawls, Dr Pardeep Sareen, and many prominent businessmen, gathered at Friends Dhaba for dinner.

Rajinder Gupta said: “We are here to celebrate demonetisation in a novel way. With little cash in hand, we decided to eat out at a place where every rich and common man of Ludhiana once used to converge for dinner nearly three decades ago.” Sandeep Jain said the past month was challenging. Businesses had taken a hit with labour having fled to their native places. The sudden financial crunch has reminded us of our childhood when we used to save every penny for a lavish dinner at a local restaurant.”
