Lt Gen Balwant Singh Negi took over as the Commandant of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, today.

He is an alumni of the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Military Academy (IMA). He was commissioned into the 15th Battalion of Assam Regiment in December, 1978. In an illustrious career spanning over more than 37 years, the officer has held various staff, instructional and command appointment. He was an instructor at IMA, Infantry School, Mhow and Staff College, Wellington. The general officer has served in operation ‘meghdoot’ and operation ‘rakshak’ and was awarded YSM in 1998 and VSM bar in 2007 and 2011.

The officer also has to his credit various academics achievements. Lt Gen Negi has been awarded Ph D degree by the Madras University for his research work on the topic ‘China’s Modernisation’ and is at present working on his research topic ‘Tibet’. The General Officer was General Officer Commanding, 14 Corps before assuming the present appointment.
