Sunday was a special day for thousands of people residing in 16 localities in Bahadurgarh town, who had been facing the problem of overhead high-voltage power lines for past several decades, as they received electricity supply from a new line for the first time. The old one was made inactive.

It was a major problem in Bahadurgarh following which the residents had been living under constant threat of electrocution with high tension wires passing over the rooftop of their houses and workplaces.

Over 50 people, mostly women and children, have come in contact with these high voltage lines in Bahadurgarh in last five years. Several victims lost their lives while others suffered serious burns.

Mahabir Park, Nehru Park, Guru Nanak Dev Colony, Chhotu Ram Colony, Johar Colony, Civil Hospital, Chhotu Ram Park, Shiv Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Dev Nagar, Pritam Colony, Vasant Vihar, Palika Colony, Friends Colony, Ram Nagar and Sector 9 have many overhead high tension power lines.

Residents of these localities have now heaved a sigh of relief. “Now, we will be able to reside in our house without fear of electrocution. Our children will be able to play on rooftops,” said Kapil of the Nehru colony, who suffered burns 17 years ago due to electrocution.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had, during his visit to Bahadurgarh in December 2014, announced the removal of overhead power lines following the demand of residents.

Earlier, the new power line was today inaugurated by BJP MLA Naresh Kaushik at a power house in Bahadurgarh. He said Rs 5 crore had been spent on the project to resolve the problem of overhead wires.
