Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will raise the issue of 39 abducted Punjabis in Iraq in Parliament on Tuesday. This was conveyed to the victims’ families today by senior Congress leader Ajay Maken.

Bhagwant Mann, AAP MP from Sangrur, has also promised the victims’ kin that he would raise the issue in Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, the families of the abducted youths have been staging dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for the last five days. Fed up with the government’s false promises, they alleged even after meeting Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister of External Affairs, eight times in eight months, they had not received any credible information about the whereabouts of their relatives in Iraq.

Parwinder Singh, whose brother Kamaljeet was abducted in Iraq, said, “Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken met us to discuss the issue. He told us that Rahul will take up the issue in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.”

Parwinder said they were fed up with the dilly-dallying approach of the government. This was why they were staging a dharna at Jantar Mantar.

On June 17, 2014, 39 youths from Punjab contacted their families that they were abducted in Mosul in Iraq.
