Residents of remote Bhudnamal village in Kupwara district have been facing shortage of ration and kerosene for the past 10 days as the road leading to the village was blocked due to heavy snowfall.

At least two feet snow is accumulated on the road since early last week. The local residents said the village was cut off from the district headquarters.

“Ration and kerosene is not available at the local depot and the locals are suffering for want of these essentials. The village is also devoid of power supply as the supply was suspended due to snowfall. The children are the worst sufferers as they have to walk at least 6 km each side to take tuitions in Chowkibal town,” said Sarpanch Abdul Subhan Lone.

The village comprising around 110 families is around 30 km from the Kupwara headquarters. The village is also devoid of water supply as the supply lines are frozen at various places.

Additional DC, Kupwara, Abdul Hafiz Shah said, “The department concerned will be asked to ensure supply of essentials to the village at the earliest. Snow will be cleared from the road as soon as the weather improves.”
