The Centre has granted an approval to increase the seats of MD/MS Ophthalmology Department from two to four at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda.

Dr Anil Chauhan, Director, Medical Education, said today that in a communication from DVK Rao, Under Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, to his office said the Centre had granted an approval to the recommendation of the Medical Council of India for the recognition of MD/MS (Ophthalmology) qualification made on April 5, 2016, against increased intake from two to four seats when granted by Himachal Pradesh University on or after July 2015 in respect of students being trained at Tanda college.

Dr Chauhan said the communication mentioned that the recognition granted should be for the maximum period of five years. He said the communication added that the failure to seek timely renewal of recognition as required should invariably result in stoppage of the admission to the postgraduate course.

The Director, Medical Education, said with the recognition the MCI and subsequent approval of the Centre for two more seats in Ophthalmology had pushed the number of the postgraduate seats in different departments in the college to 60.
