The city police have been struggling to get some clue to the brutal murder of cosmetic products’ trader Sunil Kumar (30). He was hacked to death at Samrala Chowk by assailants last night.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sourabh Jindal, who is supervising the investigation, said Although it seemed to be a case of old rivalry, the police were still struggling to get some clue. “We are not having any clue in the case so far. Several angles are being explored to identify the assailants. Footage of CCTV cameras is also being looked at for the purpose,” the ACP added.
Sunil owns a shop in Gur Mandi, namely Chintpurni Jawala Ji Cosmetics. He is survived by his wife and a three-year-old son.
The incident was reported at 10.30 pm when Sunil was heading towards home situated in Star Colony from his store. He was cornered by the armed miscreants at the Samrala Chowk flyover, who attacked him with sharp weapons.
Eyewitnesses alleged that after the assailants fled the spot presuming Sunil to be dead, they made repeated calls to the Police Control Room but nobody responded for over 20 minutes. Even the kin of the deceased alleged that had the police reached the spot on time, the assailants could have been nabbed.
Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh had also reached the spot along with a team of senior officials. The police officials said the phone call details of the deceased were also being perused.
