Sangrur, November 13

As part of their protest, anganwari workers and helpers under the banner of Anganwari Mulazam Union Punjab (CITU) today begged for money in groups near the BSNL Park here. They begged for money from passersby, including commuters, rehriwalas and small shopkeepers in the area, and collected about Rs 300.

Earlier, they took out a protest march to the BSNL Park from near the residence of Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa. They have been staging a dharna there since November 7 in support of their demands, including monthly honorarium to workers and helpers on the pattern of Haryana Government.

After begging for money, they returned to the dharna site near Dhindsa’s residence. They clashed with the police deployed near the house. The struggle between the police and the anganwari workers continued for about 15 minutes but the police foiled their attempts to reach the house.
