Rawat govt gets a pat from Amit Shah

After receiving stinging criticism from the Opposition Congress for non-performance, the TS Rawat-led BJP government today received a pat on the back for “doing a good job” from BJP president Amit Shah.

While speaking to mediapersons on the concluding day of his two-day tour to Dehradun, BJP President Amit Shah said, “The state government is doing a good job. It is committed to development. During the past six months, the government has played a decisive role and worked transparently. There has been control on sand and liquor mafia. Uttarakhand will become a developed state in the coming five years,” he said. 

To another poser on the lack of coordination between the government and the party organisation, Shah emphasised, “There is no conflict. The pace and direction of both the government and the organisation is on the right track. Both are committed to development.” 

On the issue of pending CBI enquiry into the NH-74 land scam, Shah said, “Whenever the CBI feels the inquiry has to be done, it will act appropriately. The important thing is that the scam is being inquired upon and the culprits will be caught, irrespective of the agency probing the case.”

He also denied that Union Minister for Roads and Highways Nitin Gadkari was against the inquiry.

On the issue of Central government’s assistance to the state government, Shah said, “The Central government is providing financial assistance to the tune of Rs 41,000 crore to Uttarakhand.” 

When asked about the Centre’s plans to provide special package to the state on the lines of the Vajpayee government, Shah said assistance under 14th Finance Commission was sufficient. 

He also said that the Namami Gange project would receive impetus in the BJP-ruled states of Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand. 

Shah also talked about resolving the issue of making Gairsain as the state capital in the next five years. 

He, however, refused to comment on Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s remarks that the country was becoming increasingly intolerant under the BJP government.
