Roadside checking in Faridabad and Palwal districts has resulted in an additional revenue collection of Rs 6.38 crore for the Excise and Taxation Department in the first six months of the current financial year.

Revealing that the roadside checking had been an integral part of the action plan to nab tax evaders, a senior official of the department claimed that it had not only led to more revenue generation, but also in meeting the tax collection target every year.

Faridabad district has been divided into North, South, East and West Zones and the office of the Joint Commissioner of the Range is also authorised to go for such a checking, while an office of the Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (DETC) has been functional in nieghbouring Palwal district.

According to details available, the department carried out checking in various areas and was able to detect 1,113 cases in the past six months (between April 1 and September 30) this year in the range and imposed a tax-cum-penalty of Rs 6.38 crore on the violators.

The highest number of cases were detected in Faridabad (West) with 280 firms found to be evading a tax of Rs 1.91 crore during this period. However, it is also revealed that shortage of staff seems to be posing a hurdle as there are limited numbers of officials available in comparison to workload.

“The detection of a fake firm last month which generated e-way bills of Rs 6 crore in the past few months also points toward the need of steping up the drive,” said an official. The total annual revenue (including GST and VAT) likely to be collected in both the districts is expected to be over Rs 4200 crore.

Cases detected between April 1 and Sept 30

Faridabad (East) 189 Rs 94.55 lakh

Faridabad (West) 280 Rs 190.77 lakh

Faridabad (North) 256 Rs 96.85 lakh

Faridabad (South) 130 Rs 90.72 lakh
